Colin & Andrea will be the hosts for the event and we would welcome other volunteers to lend a hand.
Please reply with your reservation and your choice of pulled pork or chicken at harrisonyachtclub98@gmail.com. As usual the deadline for your reservation will be the Sunday before which is August 18th but as usual, I always make exceptions and include late comers in the list. Surprise me and register early.

The Village Office of Tourism has again requested that HYC contribute by organizing the “Light Parade” of boats. So come out and light up your boat and join us for burgers and dogs. We are not sure at this time whether there will be fireworks on the beach due to a possible fire ban but we will keep our fingers crossed and hope for a spectacular display.
Our 2024 Safe Boaters’ Day Event will happen rain or shine. We are planning the following events, This event is open to the public to bring your friends along:
• Members’ marine swap-meet/parking-lot sale:
BOATERS’ DAY SWAP MEET DETAILS
The Swap Meet will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm. THE CLUB PARKING LOT WILL BE CLOSED to provide space for the Swap meet and displays by the Harrison Fire Department, Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, and others. Members must park on the side of Rockwell Drive or park in town and (Eek!) walk.
• Members are invited to sell their used boating-related items. • Some tables will be provided, but if you have a collapsible table, please bring it.
• Participants are expected to be present to answer questions and dicker with buyers as long as their stuff is on display.
LOANER LIFEJACKETS
Due to the condition and/or design of many of the Club’s random collection of donated loaner lifejackets and PFDs, the Safe Boating Committee purchased nine new children’s loaner lifejackets (three each: infant, child, youth) as replacements. These are true lifejackets (as opposed to personal flotation devices) designed to turn the wearer face up in the water, and are complete with crotch straps and lifting loops. They have been proximately labelled “HYC” front and back, and are currently hung on the rack in the clubhouse garage. These are LOANER lifejackets meant to be used by young visitors under twelve years of age whose host member does not already have appropriate flotation devices for them when on our docks or on their boat. As for the donated lifejackets taken out of service, unless the donors want them back, those donated lifejackets and PFDs which are in good condition will be put on sale in the upcoming Boaters’ Day Swap Meet with the proceeds going to Kent Harrison Search and Rescue. If you want your lifejacket back, please email Ernie at ernieandirene@shaw.ca to make arrangements
• Fire extinguisher inspections:
Have your boat’s fire extinguishers inspected and recertified
• Coast Guard Courtesy Checks:
Have your boat inspected for compliance with safety regulations. This is a voluntary inspection and boats found to be in compliance will be given a sticker that indicates the owner is a safe and responsible boater
• Displays by the Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department and Kent Harrison Search and Rescue:
Look over the emergency apparatus and speak with the dedicated and well-trained volunteers that help keep us safe and protect our property.
• Kids’ activities and games: A variety of fun activities for the young-uns.
• BBQ’d hot dogs with chips and drinks. Food by donation.
Please set aside the date and plan to attend!
Please email Ernie if you plan to attend. (ernieandirene@shaw.ca)
This is an event to introduce and welcome all our new members. All members will sign up with what food they plan to bring. Forward your offerings to the club general mail box. If there are too many of the same thing, you may be contacted by the committee to bring something else.
Drinks at 5 and food starts at 6PM. Bring your own beverages and a good appetite.
All members please plan to attend the AGM.
Each year at the Annual General Meeting, the members of the Harrison Yacht Club are required to elect Flag Officers and Trustees to the HYC Bridge. Therefore, all members are advised that you have the right to nominate a voting member of the Harrison Yacht Club for a position on the HYC Bridge. In the event there is more than one person nominated for a position, an election by secret ballot will take place. All nominees will be contacted to confirm their acceptance of the nomination. There will be four Bridge positions to be elected. They are as follows:
Vice Commodore
Treasurer
Staff Captain
Trustee (1)
Donuts, muffins and coffee will be provided before and during the event. The legion bar will be available to members after the AGM is completed.
